Following a major refurbishment and renovation in 2015, this historic Grade II listed pub was given a new lease of life and returned to its former glory, after being closed for years. It is now a contemporary update of the Great British Pub in its décor and style, as much as its food and drink offering. Situated just off the Market Place on the very pretty Market Street, in the affluent an extremely desirable market town of Hexham, the pub forms part of a long-established licensed, leisure and retail circuit.

The Heart of Northumberland has a superb reputation locally, across the north of England and even gained national recognition in 2018 after being voted Runner-Up in the Observer Food Magazine Awards as Best Place To Drink and more recently it was found to be the eighth Cosiest Pub in the UK. It’s known for being a place to relax, socialise and celebrate with friends and family with something for everyone, even the dog.

The food on offer is fit for all occasions and appetites, with an emphasis on locally sourced produce and Northumbrian tradition. They offer light bites, perfectly done pub classics, bar snacks, kids meals and the best Sunday roast around! This is complemented by an extensive wine list, a cutting-edge keg range, a perfect pint of Tim Taylors Landlord and  four rotating hand-pulls of well kept local ales.

After a long and successful career working for top independents bars, followed by serveral years with national corporate pub & restaurant giant, Mitchells & Butlers Metro-Proffesional brand, the current owner, Alan Philipson, saw an opportunity to acquire what was The Heart Of All England pub– a closed and bordering on derelict building in his home town. Having carefully and lovingly restored the premises during his ownership, the pub is now in turnkey condition and is superbly well presented.

Alan comments, “I’m very proud of what the team and I have created here at the Heart over the last 9 years. We have a superb reputation locally and we’re very well used by visitors coming to the area in this booming, tourist location.  I now have a growing, young family I want to spend more time with and focus on some different projects & interests in the future”.

David Cash, Regional Director at Christie & Co comments, “The Heart is a brilliant example of an independently run freehouse which holds itself to impeccable standards. Freehold opportunities like this in such strong trading locations rarely come to market and there is strong appetite from regional and national pub companies as well as local entrepreneurs looking to run pubs, so I suspect we’ll have early interest from a multitude of buyers. The freehold property is being sold along with the well-performing and profitable, going-concern business and so staff and customers should be reassured of the pubs future.”

The freehold interest in The Heart of Northumberland, Hexham is offered for sale at an asking price of £595,000.
