On the 4th December 2024, in the proposed Budget to the Scottish Parliament, Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Local Government, Shona Robison, said the ‘government had listened’ to the country’s hospitality sector.  In her statement, Robison announced Non-Domestic Rates support of 40% for hospitality businesses in line with the rest of the UK. Robison also proposed the continuation of both 100% relief for Islands and the Small Business Bonus Scheme, and pledged the government will work to prioritise people, businesses and organisations across the country.

Brian Sheldon, Regional Director at Christie & Co, comments on how these proposed changes will affect the Scottish hospitality sector, "This goes a little way but not far enough to help those operators within the hospitality sector that have been juggling costs for some considerable time. The intention is great, however, it caps the 40% relief to those businesses that have a rateable value less than £51,000 threshold. In addition for those operators that run a portfolio of units, there is a cap of £110,000 relief across their estate."
